Faith & Politics

We don't have cable but it is days like this that I sure wish we did. CNN broadcasted a Sojourner's discussion about faith, values, and poverty with three of the Democratic Presidential Candidates Obama, Clinton and Edwards. I'm hoping a webvideo of the event will be up soon. Here's a story about it.

Update: Friend and fellow blogger Helen Thompson found the web video link, click here to view.

I do have cable and I missed it. I have to say the brief video was such a teaser...Obama worked for a faith based social organizing group as his first Job (Gamaliel in Chicago...the group that sent me to DC to do Immigration lobbying this year). I'd really love to hear more than soundbytes of what they had to say...

I have cable, but I forgot about it. I'm not sure I like what I've heard, though. Once again, the mainstream media has shown itself to be nearly illiterate when it comes to religious issues. What kind of moderator asks a candidate, "What's the biggest sin you've ever committed?" We could get into the whole Romans argument that there is, in fact, no hierarchy of sin, wrong is wrong, but also...that's just not even a legitimate question for a political debate. It's not for public consumption. This is not "truth or dare."

Still, I'm eager to watch parts of it. I want to see if Hillary come across as insincerely as I suspect she will, and I want to contrast that with Obama's anticipated earnestness.
