flesh & blood

Last Sunday, I preached at the 11 o'clock service at Grace Cathedral. A special word of thanks to my Uncle Kent back home in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia who first introduced our family many years ago to the "Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet" composition by Gavin Bryars. You can check that sermon out here. Click here for the gospel text. Peace!

Wow, the old man's voice is very poignant. I have that CD, but I certainly didn't make the connection between that song and John 6. The repetition of the simple phrase is almost like the Eastern tradition of repeating the Jesus Prayer. "Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet" could be a creed or affirmation of faith, too. I also have Bryars' "Sinking of the Titanic" which is very eerie. Your sermon is awesome. I imagine it can be difficult for clergy to preach with so many Sundays focused on John 6? But this is a rich Gospel text with inexhaustible meaning.
